Dead Man Walking
On Easter Sunday we began a four-week study on temptation with the mside youth. This morning’s devotional reading from LifeWay’s KNOWN 07 material is right on target. Here’s an excerpt from the devotional:
The devil wants us dead. But if he can’t have us dead, he wants us to live as if we are dead. Spiritually dead with no visible sign of a transformed life. Imagine what is must have been like to be Lazarus. Raised from the dead after being in the tomb for four days.
There are only a few mentions of Lazarus after he was raised from the dead. But it’s clear that he was very close with Jesus and he was quite the talk of the town. Word of his resurrection spread to the people all over.
The fact is you have been raised from the dead if you are a Christian. You were a sinner – spiritually dead – but you were brought back to life by Jesus Christ. That is fact, but do you really believe that?
When sin rules you life, you are living like you are dead. That’s exactly where Satan want you. But if you’re truly alive in Christ, why do you keep choosing to sin? It’s time to start living like you are alive.

Fall Youth Newsletter
We’re mailing out copies of the Fall 2009 youth newsletter to homes this week. If you didn’t pick up a copy today at church, it will be in your mailbox by Wednesday. Mside Youth Band Album Update
I just got the final tracks that will be on the youth band album. It’s going to be awesome. You can listen to the four tracks by clicking the songs on the right hand column of my blog. Over three years ago some of the students and adults at Morningside began to dream about a group of people playing Contemporary Christian worship music at the church in a youth format. Who would have guessed that this day would come? Many students and adults have helped the band get to where it is today, but I’m most grateful to the Lord for allowing the band to grow and to use their talents to bring honor to His Name! CD’s and digital download cards will be available in early September. Most of the cost of purchasing the CD’s will go to recoop the cost of production, but any preceeds will go to the 2010 youth mission trip. The following people played or sang on the album: Holly Bannan, Rick Hennecy, Lee Lancaster, JD Weeks & Nathan Neighbors. It was recorded by Mckelvie Wilder. Listen to the songs, buy a copy of the CD, and come join us for Ignite on Wedneday nights beginning September 2nd.
