Slowing Down

As most of you know by my recent posts, we spent a week on family vacation the other week at Edisto Beach.  It was great for the first four days, but the rest of it stunk.  The boys came down with a horrible virus and ear infections and it’s taken seven days, four doctor visits, 5 drugs, 3 shots, multiple nurse-on-call phone calls, breathing treatments, and even Granna coming up to help us overcome it all.  The boys are doing much better, but now I’m sick.

There is never a good time to get sick, but really now is not the time.  The first week of summer with VBS in two days, Centrifuge in 9 days, and an international mission trip looming over my head in less than a month are really not making me feel like I can slow down.  I guess my body has a different idea about what the next few days has in store for me.  In the last 24 hours my body has kept me on my back more than verticle.  I think it’s just trying to fight off a small bit of what the boys had  last week.

I’m not the kind of guy who lies around inactive.  I don’t watch much too much TV and I couldn’t even tell you who’s the newest American Idol.  It’s just been too busy these days for much more than ministry and family time.  But, over the last week I’ve had to begin making more priority decisions.  What’s really important?  Taking Ellis to the doctor is more important than getting more of the “to-do list” done.  Working on the mission trip details is less important than being able to pick my head up off the couch.  I know that God is in control, everything will come together this summer, and he will get the glory…but for now…I’ve got to get well and get rest.  I’m about to go add to the 12 hours that I’ve already slept today.  Have a good weekend for me.

Class of ’08

Congratulations class of 2008.  I know most of you are graduating today and I pray God’s blessings on your lives both now and for the future.  I look forward to seeing all that He does in and through you.  I know that God has amazing plans for each one of you (Jer. 29:11).  Here is the video that we showed Sunday at the graduate luncheon.  Thanks Mark Alexander for creating it!

From the Beach to the Lake

Here are some more pictures from our trip.  The first one is a family shot that Ashley worked really hard at making good.  Of course, with two wild boys – that’s a major task.  We used a tripod, a self-timer on the camera, and a lot of promises of candy and ice cream.  The picture is one that Ashley took when we rented bikes yesterday.  We went riding with the boys through the Edisto Beach State Park marsh and wooded area.  We had a great day riding, having a picnic, playing on the beach playground and then playing on the beach.  It’s been a great couple of days in Edisto.

Today we are headed out of Edisto and headed for a day in Charleston before heading up to Lake Wateree stay at Ashley’s grandparents’ lake house.  We will spend a few days there hanging out at the lake while seeing some of our friends from Lancaster FBC.  We’re going to be attending one of our students from FBC’s graduation ceremony on Friday.  By the way, today is my birthday (32).  This is a great way to spend it – on vacation with my family!
