After months of praying, planning, and packing it’s time to go. Tomorrow morning I leave with a team of 12 for Costa Rica for a week-long mission trip. The unique thing about this trip is that it’s not just a Morningside trip. We’re partnering with the Spartanburg BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministries) on this journey. Half of the team are from Morningside and half are from Spartanburg BCM. The Suzanne Bachelor (BCM Campus Minister), and I are taking 10 college students. Before this trip these two groups of students didn’t know one another but all had a passion to serve Christ on mission. Through our planning and praying we are starting to gel as team and we’re ready to go.
We fly to San Jose, Costa Rica and will primarily be working in Escazu. Our contact on the ground is Mariana Melo. She is a breath of fresh air. Her spirit and her passion for the lost is absolutely infectious. I cannot wait to see how we are challenged spiritually by Mariana.
While in Costa Rica we will be involved in a variety of ministries such as: work at an orphanage, planting a garden for an orphanage, ministering to unwed teen mothers, kids clubs, Bible studies, worship services, and laying a concrete floor in a home of a woman with dirt floors. In addition to all of this, we’re anticipating the Lord will place many other opportunities before us. I’m looking forward to seeing how each of these students use the gifts God has given them to make Christ known (1 Peter 4:10)
Pray for us and keep up with our trip through this blog. I’ll try to do updates every day.
Today we celebrated with our seniors at Morningside as they move into the next chapter of their lives. Congratulations to our class of 2012. It’s been great seeing these students from the day they entered 7th grade till today. I’m proud of you and pray God’s blessing on you all. May you all keep Christ first as you head off to college in the fall. [vimeo 42520643]
