Long have I read stories of Christ’s forgiveness toward the outcasts. That he would dine with “sinners.” That he would go to the homes of those that the establishment would frown upon. I’ve even read this story before…of the lady with the alabaster jar. Yet, I don’t think I ever paid attention to the fact that this was the home of a Pharisee. That’s important. Because it follows the pattern…of Jesus dining with sinners. Of which we are ALL included. He was reaching out to the religious leaders too. Maybe part of the point of being there that night was to share love with Simon. We are ALL in need of His love and grace. As as minister, it’s a great reminder to me of my own sin and deep need for Jesus.
As much as I enjoy keeping up with everyone on social media, I need to create some margin in life. During Advent I’m leaving social media to spend more time preparing my heart for Jesus and enjoying being present with my family this season. I’ll be back after Christmas.
