We’re on our annual beach trip this week with some of our extended family at Litchfield Beach. Here’s a little video from our first day on the beach.
If you look at Song of Solomon (also called Song of Songs) as it is written – it would make anyone sailor blush. My favorite saying from this book is, “I am my lover’s and my lover is mine.” (Song of Solomon 6:3) In some translations it is stated like this: “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.” The words of this book are a great description of not only mans love for woman, but also God’s love for us.
If you look at Song of Solomon from a very literal point of view, this might be the picture you see: (click image to enlarge)
Here are two things that stand our to me about today’s reading:
1. Proverbs 31:10-31 – This is the description of a godly woman. These are special verses to Ashley and I because these are the scripture verses that are engraved in her wedding band. Ashley is a great example of these passages. She’s a wonderful wife, a loving mother and a godly woman.
2. Ecclesiastes 1-2 – This book is traditionally thought to be written by Solomon. Though I’m no biblical scholar, the beginning of this book comes across a little negative. The writer describes wisdom as meaningless. Remember, Solomon was the wisest person to ever live. So, I guest he would be the one to say whether it was worth it or not. The way I read it – it seems like Solomon is saying that you can have everything in the world (riches, wisdom, pleasures, and hard work) but without the Lord it’s all worthless. Ecclesiastes 2:25 says, “for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?”
