mside jv ball team 2009It’s been a long, but great ten weeks and our church league basketball season is drawing to a close.  This year was our second year to field teams for the area YMCA Church League.  We had two teen guy teams and a girl’s team.  Overall we had about 35 players and coaches participating.  Last night our JV Guys team had their last game.  Though it was very close loss, they played bery well.  In fact, both of our boys’ teams had great seasons.  They’ve come a long way – and learned a lot about the game of basketball and about our Savrior, Jesus Christ.   Here’s a photo of our JV team.  Tonight the varsity guys have a game and then their last game is on Saturday at 11am.  Our girl’s team finishes up Thursday night.  Special thanks to Kenn Blankenship, Jody Welch, Samantha McSwain and Robert Inclan for coaching and making it a great season!

I’m in Nashville this week at LifeWay Christian Resources participating in a Student Bible Study Curriculum Ideation Conference.  “Ideation Conference” is just a big term that means about ten people who love students and who enjoy writing coming together to brainstorm ideas for Sunday School curriculum.  We’re working on the KNOWN curriculum for Winter 2010.  For more info about the material that’s being produced for students click here.  It’s been really cool.  I love the opportunity to sit down with youth pastors from around the countyr and hear the ideas that they share and hear their passions for ministering to students.  We have been using KNOWN this year at Morningside and love it.  It’s a great curriculum tool for teaching God’s word and connecting not only the Sunday Morning aspect of it but also the daily devotional life of the student and the mid-week service for youth groups.  It’s a great tool.  I’m grateful that Morningside is giving me time to be here and I’m grateful for those who are back home keeping everything running.  I’ll be praying tomorrw (Wednesday) for our Seniors who are leading the Ignite Student service back at church.

super_bowl_2009_logoStudents, don’t forget that this Sunday night is our annual Super Bowl Party.  We will be meeting at the home of Paul & LeAnn Ross (Aaron’s parents) for the big game.  Subs will be provided by the church, but we’re asking all families to bring finger foods, desserts, or soft drinks.  The kick off is at 6:20pm, so plan to be at the house by 6:00pm.  If you need a ride I will be taking the church van over from the church at 5:45pm.  Invitations with directions will be mailed this week and handed out at church on Wednesday and Sunday.  Bring all of your friends for this great time together as we spend time together, watch some great football, and hear from God’s Word.
