As we draw to a close in our summer Bible reading we find ourselves in the last four days of scripture readings. We’ve been in such an amazing journey in God’s Word from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21.
Today we read Hebrews. Typically I have been reading each day in my paper Bible. But today I decided to let YouVersion’s Bible App read it to me on my phone. …I’m so glad I did! Hearing the book of Hebrews read aloud is a powerful way to soak it in. The book of Hebrews is a strong defense of faith in Jesus. It’s like listening to a perfect sermon. It all flows together as one powerful statement. It’s originally written to the Jewish people to help them understand how Jesus is our great High Priest. He is The One they have been waiting for. God has made a new covenant by the sacrifice of Jesus once for all!
As we read these words today… This is my prayer for you, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…” (Heb. 3:7-8) Read The Word of the Lord and open your heart to His Holy Spirit. Allow His Word to break in… “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing souls and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Heb 4:12). And…”let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith…” (Heb 12:2)

“And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.” 1 Timothy 2:9-10 NLT
Something that is very prevalent in our society today is the issue of modesty… especially among high school girls. Many girls speak out saying that dress codes are “body-shaming” and is disrespectful. They want certain articles of clothing to be allowed, like shorter shorts, because it’s hot outside and they don’t want to have to wear jeans in hot weather. As a high school girl, I can attest to that. But, according to this verse, our dress shouldn’t even matter. We shouldn’t want to wear the shorter shorts or the expensive jewelry. Our main concern as Christian girls should be proclaiming Jesus Christ through every aspect of our lives. That means the way we act, what we say, and the way we dress.
Saying all this, I don’t care if I can or can’t wear a certain pair of shorts to school. I don’t care if I have the most expensive piece of whatever in my wardrobe. I want to live my life everyday proclaiming Christ and I want people to see that through every aspect of who I am. Your testimony means so much more to who you are than what outfit you’re wearing today. God wants you to live your life proclaiming Him and worshiping and loving him alone.

Our first week of school is done! The reading today starts out telling us something we all need to hear. It all says that we are all the same if we are in Jesus Christ. There aren’t any races or anything that could be used to be judged. If we are all Christians, we are all the same in Him. The next passage tells us that we were all saved by Jesus, so there is no difference between any one who has been saved.
A big thing we read is Ephesians 2 verses 8-10. These verses say, “For it is by grace you have need saved through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This says that Jesus saved us with His grace. We didn’t do this by ourselves, and it isn’t so that people can brag about it. God made us so that we could do good things he already had planned out. He has amazing things for us.
In Philippians, Paul says that he rejoiced in his chains because Christ is preached. Some preach out of love for Christ and some preach to make Paul feel bad and to make fun of him, but Paul says that no matter the intention, Christ is being preached. Another thing he says is that he was an amazing Jew, he followed all of the laws. But he says that anything he received for that is nothing to what Jesus gave him.
Paul says that we should all follow what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, or anything is worthy of praise. Paul tells us that we need to follow everything he has told us. If we do this, God’s peace will be with us.
In Colossians, Paul says that he prays for the knowledge of God to fill the people so they can live a life worthy to the Lord. We need to do this too. If we had the knowledge that God gives, we would be able to follow him better.
In most letters Paul sends, he says that he rejoices in the suffering he faces for the people. He doesn’t care that bad things are happening to him. He just cares for the people. It doesn’t matter that he suffers if other people are staying strong in Christ.
Paul tells the people to pray for him so that he could spread Christ to more people. He also asks for them to pray that he would teach it clearly. We need to pray for this in our lives and the lives of others trying to spread the Good News of Jesus. We should all ask for opportunities to spread the word and to do it clearly.
