I’m glad that the cross that I got from my sister’s trip to Africa almost 10 years ago is still making an impact today. Though it was not origianlly a Christian symbol, it has been used as the cross for the Christian missionaries and nationals in Western Africa for some time. It is very special to me and I’m glad that I can share it with you.
We have been passing it among the youth at Morningside this summer as a way to stay connected to one another and as a way to recognize seeing Christ in one another. Each time we meet before a major event or trip the person who has it passes it to someone else in the group. So far it has been passed to nic – cathy – paul – aimee – martha lee – stephen – and now katie wears it. As she passes it off tomorrow may we always remember what the cross means to all of us. It’s a reminder of what Jesus did for us. Our Savior bled and died – to take away our sins and to overcome death. Because of his sacrifice and because of his death and resurrection we can have life and life abundant with our Heavenly Father! May we always, “…deny [ourselves] and take up [our] cross daily and follow [him].” Luke 9:23
