We’re waking up this morning at the hotel in Charleston and heading to the beach for a beach-side devotional time with the youth mission team before we go home. We’re beginning our service by reading Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God…” At the end of a full week of camp and missions, these are timely words to reflect upon.
Another passage in this section that stood out to me was Psalm 51:15-17. We learned a lot about sacrifice this week at camp. The system of sacrifices was a big deal in the Old Testament. How cool is it that the psalmist reminds the people that the Lord doesn’t delight in their typical sacrifices (such as the animals). His delight comes from our “sacrifice of a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart.”
