24 Years of Freedom

Today is a special day.  It’s my birthday.  Not my biological birthday – my spiritual birthday.  On March 6, 1988 my life was forever changed.  I was an eleven year old kid living in Florence, SC going with my family to Greenwood Baptist Church.  I can remember it like it was yesterday.  I was sitting with my family on the back left side of the sanctuary.  For a few weeks prior to this day I had been sensing that the Lord was after my whole heart.  I knew about Jesus, but I didn’t know Christ personally.  I had never asked him to be my Lord and Savior.  But during the invitation time on March 6, 1988 I release my hands that were gripping the back of the pew and nearly ran down the aisle.  I can’t remember all that I said, but I remember crying and barely being able to speak.  I remember telling the pastor of my sinfulness and my need for Jesus.  As he and I prayed, the God of the Universe and I were reconciled to each other through Jesus Christ.  That day began the amazing journey that I’m still on today.  I love you Lord.  You are my God and forever will be.  Thank you for giving me this abundant and free life. To You be the glory forever and ever…amen.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.  – Ephesians 2:8-9
