Evan Almighty

What an awesome movie. I enjoyed seeing Evan Almighty with the 57 students and adults who converged on the Converse Cinema tonight. What a way to celebrate VBS and Sports Camp! Gen 6:14 was in fact a very important passage during the movie. But as I said before hand in our devotion time, I think verse 22 is equally important. You see, God told Noah to build the ark in Gen 6:14 – and in Gen 6:22 it says that Noah obeyed him. Isn’t that what God desires? Our 100% obedience? Total devotion to Him. God said it, and Noah did it. Simple as that…

As you remember the hilarious movie you just saw – consider what you could take from it. What has God called you to do – to change the world? Are you willing to give up everything to follow Him? Are you willing to face persecution, ridicule, and the loss of friends in the process? Following God is never the easy path – but it’s what He calls us to do. Let’s follow him together!

This week has be great! Vacation Bible School and Sports Camp were a complete success. With over 180 children in attendance and with over 30 of our teenagers serving – the week was awesome.

Teenagers, I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of the way you served this week. Each one of you did a fantastic job. You taught in Bible School all morning and most of you stayed through the afternoon to teach kids to play soccer, basketball, Frisbee or cheerleading. I am blown away by your maturity, passion, and leadership. Each of you is growing in your walk with the Lord and I can tell by the fruit of your lives. Those kids sure could tell it too. Thank you for being lights for Christ in Spartanburg this week. Keep it up!

May we take that same light with us and serve our Savior and Lord in Omaha, NE in the coming days as we head off to the reservation to work with the Omaha Nation. And then the real test will come.

Just a few short weeks after Mission Omaha you will head back to your campuses and have the opportunity to live lives that passionately follow Jesus around your friends back at the junior high and high school campuses all across our county. Will you be ready?

By the way, the cross has been moving around since camp.  Molly Long took it home from camp then passed to it Mary Ellen in Sunday School.  Mary Ellen passed it to Taylor Barr on Monday of VBS.  Taylor passed it to Kate Inclan on Tuesday at VBS.  Kate passed it to Cam Connelly on Wednesday.  Cam passed it to Janna McClure on Thursday.  Janna passed it to Caleb Hoover who still has it and will pass it off next to someone going on the mission trip.  And on it goes…connecting us throughout our summer.

That Was Then…This Is Now

Today, Ashley and I celebrate our 8th anniversary of marriage. Though we have been married 8 years, we have been dating for 15 years. I guess looking at these two photos you can tell Ashley and Nathan at Fuge ‘07what 15 years, two children and lots of youth ministry can do to a couple.

I love you Ashley and love being your husband. You are an amazing wife, a great mom to Anderson and Ellis and a wonderful partner in ministry. Thank you for being such a great example of Christ to me.

I Love You! Happy Anniversary
