Apples to Coby

Tonight, Ashley and I had the great opportunity to go to a Sunday School class party and we aren’t even in the class.  I guess we got bumped up a notch to the class of couples who are just a couple of years older than us.  We left the children at “Parents Night Out” (thanks to Mrs. Carole and the teenagers) and then we had a covered dish dinner and a time of fellowship.  The night came to a close with a competitive game of “Apples to Apples.”  It’s a fairly new card game where you have to pair words together and the person with the most green cards – I won’t even try to explain it anymore.  Anyway, Coby Hennecy, the wife of one of our praise band drummers won with her four green cards.  You would have thought it was a million dollar lottery win. (Ha Ha Ha)

We all had a great time and it was a fun way to spend a Saturday night.  Thank you for inviting us and allowing us to share our lives with yours at Morningside.  We love hanging out with you all and doing ministry with you in Spartanburg.

I still can’t believe I didn’t even get one green card!

Group Picture at WinterplaceThese past few days we’ve been in West Virginia skiing with our high school and college students at Winterplace Ski Resort.  It was an awesome time and no one had any injuries (I even made it down a few times without falling too much).  However, most of us woke up this morning feeling pretty sore.  It was good weather and a great time for skiing.  It would have been perfect where it not for the snow-blowers going full speed turning us into human popsicles as we skied past them.  But, without the blowers their wouldn’t have been any skiing, so I guess we can’t complain.  Thanks to all our chaperons who helped make this trip a success.  Thank you Steve, Kimberly, Jack, Ruth Ann, Ashley, and of course David who drove the bus.  Students, have a great start to your new semester and God bless you has you begin 2008 with your new commitments to Christ.

Today at Morningside was “Student Day at Christmas.”  It was an annual tradition that made it’s resurgence this year where the college and seminary students help lead worship.  Everyone did an awesome job and I appreciate all of our student worship leaders.  Thanks to Mark, Andy, Holly, Rick, Edward, Amy, Hudson, Lindzey, Molly, Tad, and of course Betsy for allowing God to use you to bring His message to the congregation!  Also, thanks to Steve, Kimberly, Kelli, and Will for faithfully leading our College Ministry!  Props go out to McKelvie and Ralph for running sound and Paula for the organ bells!  God was truly honored today and everyone did a great job leading the congregation to the feet of Jesus as we worshiped Him on this Sunday after Christmas.

As Betsy reminded us today, let Christmas continue to be celebrated in your heart over the coming week as we approach Epiphany!  May we continue to seek the One the wise men sought after thousands of years ago.  May we always be open to what God is doing around us and the ways in which He’s working in our midst – even in uncommon ways.  God bless you all and have a Happy New Year.

We’re off tomorrow morning to West Virginia with 30 high school and college students to ski over the New Year’s Holiday.  Pray I don’t break anything!
