This past Saturday night I had the privilege of seeing some good friends from Lancaster. Spartan High played Lancaster in a makeup game on Saturday night. Tyler Outen, one of my youth from FBC Lancaster is the center for LHS and Lauren Taylor is one of the cheerleaders. Katie, Christy, Kathy, Becky and Gary came as well to cheer on the team. It was an awesome night. It was great to see you all – but kinda strange seeing youth from my previous church playing against youth from Morningside. Who do you cheer for in that situation? (Well, I guess someone had to win – sorry LHS). My Lancaster friends are dear to my heart and I love you a lot. I’m looking forward to seeing what God continues to do in your lives. God bless you all!
(ps – Where’s the scrapbook, Katie?)
What a weekend this has been! I am so grateful to each teenager and adult who helped with Christmas in Action. Our team cleaned, re-roofed, and painted Mrs. Fanny Sterling’s house in two days. This is amazing and only God can get the glory for it. With a small team – great things were accomplished in the name of Christ. You truly impacted this woman’s life and the neighbors living around her.
To top off all that God did through the Youth Ministry this weekend – He showed off again – just because He can by blowing the doors off of our Sunday School High Attendance Day. It was awesome! I have to admit I doubted making our 75 person goal (even counting our teachers). We had 78 students and 95 total people (including volunteers). Filling eight rows with students in worship was amazing – not because of the numbers – but because there were more voices praising God and hearing the Truth of His Word.
Thank you to all the students and teachers who helped make it a success. Special thanks to Derrick and Holly. Thank you Holly, for the music (God has given you an amazing talent even without a voice this weekend). Thank you Derrick, for coming home this weekend and taking your time to be with the students. God bless you and your ministry. If you would like to email a thank you to Derrick, you can reach him at his seminary email – dsmith8@gcts.edu
Last night was a big success with the 5th Quarter. After Spartan High defeated Boiling Springs, Morningside hosted a 5th Quarter. We had about 70 students show up and a great number of adult volunteers to help welcome and serve food. Thanks so much volunteers for helping make last night possible. Thanks for providing all that great food and for staying up late for these students. Over half of our crowd were guests! Thanks Flynn for such a great concert! You rocked it out last night and the students loved it. Thanks for being such a great witness to the teens of Spartanburg. Here is one of our good pics from the night. Congratulations Dee on winning the ipod.
